Coolangatta is Queensland's most southerly coastal town, bordering NSW. The sunloving and outdoor lifestyle of Coolangatta residents has sadly led to some of the highest rates of melanoma in Australia. A statistic that needs to change, and a statistic that can be changed through promoting awareness in the local area.

The Strand, Melanoma Institute Australia and the dedicated Melanoma March committee are excited to be bringing Melanoma March to Marine Parade and Coolangatta Beach again in 2016.

Melanoma March Coolangatta will commence from the Strand shopping centre on Marine Parade and take in a picturesque 4km loop along the foreshore of Coolangatta Beach. After the walk, all participants are welcomed back to The Strand for post-event refreshments and family-friendly entertainment. Please note registrations will be at the base of the escalator as well as outside for those who bring their four-legged friends.

In 2016, participants of the event are welcome to march, walk, stroll or even run the event. We encourage if participants anticipate running this event, that they make their way to the front of the pack at the start of the event. Please note; this is not a timed event.

Natalie Quirk is the dedicated dedicated host of the 2016 Melanoma March Coolangatta for the first time, and will be supported by the lovely people at the Strand at Coolangatta. Natalie has been personally impacted by melanoma in and is hoping to raise funds and awareness to help change the outcome and quality of life of people living with this disease. The local committee and the team at Melanoma Institute Australia encourage everyone to join in on the march to one day find cure!

Getting there

Enjoy 3 hours free underground parking at The Strand 72-80 Marine Parade, Coolangatta.

What to wear

We encourage all Melanoma Marchers to practice their sun safety while taking part in this event. Sunscreen will be available at all events, but we suggest that you apply your sunscreen before leaving home. Participants are also encouraged to dress appropriately with sun-safe clothing, hats and sunglasses and remember your comfortable shoes.

Can you help?

As a not-for-profit organisation, these events are all run by volunteers. All profits go directly toward funding research projects at Melanoma Institute Australia. If you or your business has the capacity to help with the organisation of the event (printing flyers, sharing on social media, loaning pop-up marquees to the organisers etc) it would be greatly appreciated. Please email us if you feel you can help.
