  • RIVERWAY - NEAR TOP LAGOON, townsville
  • WALK START TIME - 9.00am
  • Light entertainment and refreshments will be available
  • approximate 4km loop

This early morning walk is easy and great for the whole family. Taking part is not only good for your health, but you're also fundraising and raising awareness for Australia's national cancer, melanoma. You're encouraged to take part as Australia unites to fight this devastating disease.

Committee members Julie-Ann and Mikkayla McLeod, Regan Green and Nicky Cole are hosting the 4th annual Melanoma March in Townsville, in memory of their loved ones lost and all others affected by this disease.

Melanoma March Townsville will take place at Riverway, meeting near the top lagoon. Marchers will head down to the weir footbridge, cross to the Riverview Tavern, make their way around the motorway footbrige and return to the start location. After the 4km loop is completed, marchers are invited to enjoy entertainment, refreshments, stalls and raffles. There will also be opportunities for marchers to honour those who have lost their battle with melanoma.

In 2016, participants of the event are welcome to march, walk, stroll or even run the event. We encourage if participants anticipate running this event, that they make their way to the front of the pack at the start of the event. Please note; this is not a timed event.

All the members of the Townsville committee are dedicated supporters of Melanoma Institute Australia and are hoping to raise funds and awareness to help change the outcome and quality of life of people living with melanoma. The local committee, their families and the team at Melanoma Institute Australia encourage everyone to join in on the march to one day find a cure!

Getting there

Riverway has ample room for parking, however Sunland Plaza and Willows Shopping Centre car parks are located close by. The nearest bus stop is located at Willows Shopping Centre.

What to wear

We encourage all Melanoma Marchers to practice their sun safety while taking part in this event. Sunscreen will be available at all events, but we suggest that you apply your sunscreen before leaving home. Participants are also encouraged to dress appropriately with sun-safe clothing, hats and sunglasses and remember your comfortable shoes.

Can you help?

As a not-for-profit organisation, these events are all run by volunteers. All profits go directly toward funding research projects at Melanoma Institute Australia. If you or your business has the capacity to help with the organisation of the event (printing flyers, sharing on social media, loaning pop-up marquees to the organisers etc) it would be greatly appreciated. Please email us if you feel you can help.
